What is Tutor The Nation?

Tutor The Nation was founded in 2020 with a simple idea: to use volunteer-led online tutoring to drive social mobility across the UK. Starting in Bolton, we have since supported 350+ pupils across England and Wales and are continuing to grow.

Our vision is a fairer education system where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential. We believe that, when available to all, tutoring has the power to transform education for everyone. Our volunteers are making education fairer, one tutoring session at a time.

Why you should Volunteer:

Tutoring makes a big difference to pupils’ lives by encouraging and supporting them. Together we can give young people the education they deserve. Volunteering with Tutor The Nation has lots of benefits for you too. It offers a fun and rewarding opportunity to share your knowledge and passion for your subject. As little as one hour a week is all it takes to join us on our mission.

Who we are looking for:

  • You are a UK-based university student, recent graduate or have teaching experience

  • You have a spare hour a week to support a student for an academic term or longer.

  • You are passionate and knowledgable about a subject that is taught at GCSE or A level.

  • You care about what we do and have the enthusiasm to make a difference!

What you can expect from us:

  • Giving back: You will have an opportunity to make a difference through volunteering. Giving back doesn’t have to require a penny. All you need is a little bit of time, passion and commitment to those who need it most.

  • Develop your skills: Working with a young person is an opportunity to pass on the knowledge you’ve gained, whilst also building on your own understanding. Explaining things to a student requires you to look at problems from different angles, which can challenge your own approaches too – it’s a two-way learning process!

  • Boost your CV: Through training and first-hand experience, you will develop transferable skills and gain invaluable experience while volunteering that are hugely desirable to employers. Tutoring will enable you to grow your leadership and communication skills, whilst also demonstrating your ability to stay organised and take responsibility.
